Cosmetic Dermatology

At Dermatology Consultants, our skin doctors strive to provide you with healthy, beautiful skin. We know that while the health of your skin is a priority, the aesthetics are of great importance as well—providing you with invaluable confidence in your appearance. As such, our skin doctors offer a variety of cosmetic dermatology options at our Lynchburg, VA office.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)

This cosmetic dermatology treatment provides non-abrasive and non-invasive rejuvenation of your skin. To give you beautiful skin all over, the system works on the face, hands, and body. IPL photofacials can minimize signs of sun damage, rosacea, and brown spots.

The system can also reduce the appearance of mild acne scars, diminish fines lines on the face, and it is an excellent way to achieve permanent removal of unwanted hair. Each IPL session typically lasts under 20 minutes. The IPL handpiece is gently pressed to the skin and painless pulses of light are emitted.

Blu-U-300x200.jpgBLU-U Blue Light Photodynamic Therapy is used in conjunction with a Levulan Kerastick to treat minimally to moderately thick actinic keratoses on the face or scalp (otherwise known as “sun spots”). The BLU-U is also a non-drug therapy for moderate acne. The therapy utilizes a unique, specially designed blue light that kills the P. acnes bacteria in your skin. BLU-U acne treatments are gentle and typically well tolerated by patients.

Phototherapy Treatment

Daavlin-Phototherapy-171x300.jpgAt Dermatology Consultants, our skin doctors offer UVB light phototherapy as a means to treat psoriasis, vitiligo, eczema, and other light responsive diseases. Phototherapy, or light therapy, involves exposing the skin to ultraviolet light on a regular basis under the medical supervision of your skin doctor. This cosmetic dermatology treatment is done in our Lynchburg, VA office with a Daavlin phototherapy unit.

Sclerotherapy is often referred to as spider vein treatment. Spider veins are small clusters of red, blue, or purple veins that appear on the thighs, calves, and ankles. For some, these afflictions can first become noticeable at a young age, while for others they not appear until much later. Sclerotherapy involves the injection of a specially formulated solution into each affected vein, causing the vein to collapse and fade. This procedure may require multiple treatments at our Lynchburg, VA office.

Patch Testing

A patch test is a method our Lynchburg, VA skin doctors use to determine whether a specific substance causes allergic inflammation of a patient’s skin.
